Group Presentation Review

Group 2:
Pros: Brought up a good point that BYU has an office for depression and anxiety, but that they did not have a good work-out area.
Cons: Lots of words on your slides. Sometimes felt like you were reading from them.

Group 3:
Pros: Great job going into detail about the costs and how that would work.
Cons: Had trouble understanding your idea at first, better explanation could really help convince others of your point even more.

Group 4:
Pros: Easy to understand and good visuals.
Cons: Didn't address some of the main logistical problems.

Group 5:
Pros: Good job on your slides and explaining what your idea is. Very clear.
Cons: Reviewing your qualifications would be good. Presentation was good, but at times it was hard to categorize what point you were talking about.

Group 6:
Pros: Wonderful slides!!!
Cons: When discussing the problems with BioDeisel, you used some technical terms that I did not understand.

Group 7:
Pros: great presentation. Your idea was very clearly set forth and convincing.
Cons: When presenting you seemed like you looked at the screen most of the time. More eye contact would be good.

Group 8:
Pros: Overall, very convincing. You addressed your audience very well and really helped to communicate your point.
Cons: There was a lot of info on some of your slides. Cutting some of that information out and just saying it would be good.

Group 9:
Pros: Great job using the website to show how secure passwords are. Really brought validity to your point.
Cons: Slides seemed a bit crowded.

Group Feedback

• Group 1: Food place on campus ○ Did well: Good overview of the plan at the beginning ○ Could improve on: A little too much detail for some of the talking points • Group 2: Better exercise facilities ○ Did well: Good explanation of complex brain function ○ Could improve on: Said something similar to 'so you see this needs updating' a number of times. • Group 3: Shuttle system ○ Did well: Good conclusion, it really summed up everything nicely. ○ Could improve on: Some of the slides had all of the text to say. • Group 5: Tires ○ Did well: Great intro and presentation skills ○ Could improve on: I really couldn't think of anything, it was fun and engaging. • Group 6: Fossil Fuels ○ Did well: Good explanation of the benefits you would provide. ○ Could improve on: Some of the pictures had a ton of words • Group 7: Overcrowded trails ○ Did well: Good layout of the current situation and what is to be done about it, also good simple graphics ○ Could improve on: It was good, maybe show a little more passion? • Group 8: Scholarships for transfer students ○ Did well: Had a good explanations of the costs and benefits ○ Could improve on: A lot of text on slides • Group 9: Improve password security ○ Did well: Explain why passwords are easy Could improve on: Passwords are pretty boring, and you did a good job of making them not as boring, but it was still passwords at the end of the day. It did convince me to care a little bit more about my passwords though.

Group Presentation Review

Group 1
Pro: The group gives a clear introduction of current food situation on the south campus. The proposal to solve the situation is clear
Cons: Did not list the challenges to build the express food station, such as inspection.

Group2
Pro: This group talks clearly about the benefit of the proposal on building the new sport facilities.
Cons: It rarely talks about the complications that associate with the proposal.

Group3:
Pro: The proposal to have a shuttle system is clear, which includes the cost and benefits.
Con: The proposal requires a tuition increase to implement the program; however, there is no research on the number of student will take the shuttle, and the shuttle capacity.

Group 4
Pro: This proposal gives us a new insight of car service can be done outside the mechanics shop.
Cons: There is no comparison between the service program in the proposal and the traditional mechanics shop.

Group5
Pro: The topic is clear, and the topic is interesting, and the app for food
Con: There is no comparison between the current app and the new app

Group 7
Pro: The slide in the presentation is clear and easy to follow.
Con: Give more details how the proposal gets the funding from.

Group8
Pro: The introduction is clear, and the content on the slide is simple and easy to understand
Con: There are not lots of statistics on opposition side of the proposal.

Group9:
Pro: The proposal is interesting, and the presenters give details to create a strong password.
Con: It does more compare the pro and cons of creating the complex password. Maybe more statistics will be helpful.

Group Presentation Review

Group 1 - "Student Express"
Positive: Well thought out and well-prepared with statistics and graphs. Good presentation.
Negative: Didn't seem memorized enough--read from the screen too often

Group 3 - "Blue and White Cougar Shuttles"
Positive: It was an interesting idea, and the need was clear. Explained things clearly.
Negative: Too many words on slides, not enough pictures.

Group 4 - "Big O Tires On-Site Van"
Positive: Loved the visuals of the slides, not too many words.
Negative: Not enough information on practical logistics.

Group 5 - "Smart Eat App"
Positive: The slides had great graphs and were easy to understand.
Negative: I didn't find the presentation as interesting, but maybe I just wasn't into it. They could have engaged the audience a bit more.

Group 6 - "Biodiesel Fuel"
Positive: They were upfront about concerns, and they had a lot of good research.
Negative: Economic considerations about food prices should be addressed.

Group 7 - "Utah Trail Maintenance"
Positive: Had a passion for taking care of the trails, and put other people's quotes and advice to good use.
Negative: The problem was overplayed--I love hiking, but going around a tree that fell down and 'trampling the vegetation' isn't really a big deal. If it's not where the tree fell, then it's right next to it. I wasn't convinced of the urgency. But everything else was technically very good.

Group 8 - "Transfer Scholarships at BYU"
Positive: Interacted with audience, and well informed of the policies.
Negative: Make this more important to the committee--what is BYU losing, and why should they care to change it right this instant?

Group 9 - "Password Policies"
Positive: I loved the slides and the interactive password cracker--very engaging and interesting.
Negative: Maybe too many words on some of the slides.

Group Presentations Review

Creating a Healthier Campus
Pros - I liked it, passionate about the topic and appealed to audience
Cons - Went a little back and forth between the sections, I would have ordered it all differently

Blue & White: Cougar Line
Pros - I liked to specifics on the estimated startup cost and yearly cost
Cons - I think there's too much sensitivity surrounding the subject of increasing tuition costs to propose that the money for the project come by charging more for tuition, however small (even $6). I would have suggested proposing a cut to costs somewhere else as a source for the funding. Gotta avoid ideas that your audience will find repulsive ^_^

SmartEat
Pros - They tailored it nicely to their audience of choice, college students
Cons - I would have included more about the collaboration with businesses was going to work. The fact that the app was going to be free wasn't brought up until the end of the presentation, and that sort of killed it because everyone's thought was "Where's the money going to come from then?". It was sort of quickly answered, but should have been in the presentation.

Big O Tires Orem
Pros - Creative idea, presented well, appeared well-rehearsed
Cons - I would have liked to see specifics on how the van is designed (or what it includes) to be capable for the work. There wasn't much of anything about the van.

Biodiesel Fuel
Pros - Did a good job of establishing the current situation surrounding biodiesel
Cons - Obviously the science is difficult to understand (or even make up), but I would have liked to see a specific innovative idea proposed. I have received 3 science research grants, and you don't get awarded them by saying "Here's a problem, give us money to look for a solution". You get them by saying "Here's a problem, and here is a possible solution we have researched and want to try."

Password Security
Pros - Very convincing argument, especially for a lay-audience, I liked the use of the website
Cons - The proposal was fairly simple, might have included something about removing the highly sensitive info from my.byu.edu entirely

Hiking Trails Project
Pros - Good, reasonable plan of one week per year, limits disturbance to people's enjoyment
Cons - It wasn't clear why the current situation is the way it is (about the powered tools and such)

BYU Transfer Student Scholarships
Pros - Super passionate
Cons - Didn't address how the scholarships would be decided on for transfer students. Not all universities are created equal, so it can't just be a simple rule of "everyone on scholarship at their original school gets BYU scholarship too".

Presentation Pros and Cons

Group 1

Pro: They stated the thesis and addressed all the topics so we could see an outline of the presentation. The project was very specific and detailed.
Con: there was an unbalanced amount of speaking time between the group members.

Group 2

Pro: Personal stories added to the need for an update and made it feel relatable to the audience. The statistics and studies helped drive the point home.
Con: Technical difficulties distracted from the overall flow of the presentation.

Group 3

Pro: The map is an easy way to visualize exactly where the proposed stops are it was concise and clear.
Con: could have been more personable if more personal stories were told.

Group 5

Pro: Very original idea. Good conclusion and recap.
Cons: Could be more fluid and detailed with some graphs to make it more easily understood.

Group 4

Pro: Great visuals and very easy to see and understand.
Con: could be more excited to add to the engagement of the presentation.

Group 6

Pro: Detailed solution lots of research done, good conclusion.
Con: A little unorganized with who was talking at what point, used a lot of jargon and was hard to understand because of my lack of knowledge on the subject

Group 7

Pro: very concise, relatable to our situations, great transitions from topic to topic
Cons: lots of attention on the slides presenters could have had more eye contact with the audience.

Group 8

It was perfect

Group 9

Pro: very personable and relatable to our situation. Shock value was very good. Great visual with the website.
Con: More information per slide. I wanted to learn more.

Audience Presentation Review

Group 2
Good: They were united and funny. I liked how they kept the class engaged
Improve: They seemed kind of jumbled when it came to technology and setting things up

Group 3
Good: Good class involvement.
Improve: Some of the slides had too much wording

Group 4
Good: Great concise slides; they kept the slides with limited photos but were still engaging
Improve: They seemed little dry

Group 5
Good: They had good graphics that kept everyone interested
Improve: I thought they could address more potential problems, like a crowded parking lot

Group 6
Good: They were funny and they had lots of pictures for their explanations
Improve: I feel like not everyone talked evenly. They could have passed the word more

Group 7
Good: Interactive questions and good transitions between group members
Improve: They didn't seem too excited or passionate about their topic

Group 8
Good: They had a good appeal to emotion.
Improve: Their qualifications and other explanations seemed a little lacking.

Group 9
Good: Good interaction between the two of them.
Improve: super cool presentation, cant think of anything!

Audience Presentation Review

Group 1 "The Student Express"
I missed this presentation.

Group 2 "Creating a Healthier Campus"

Good: This was a great idea. You gave good examples of how this has been done at other universities.
To be improved: Introducing the next topic and person would create smoother transitions.

Group 3 "Blue & White: Cougar Line"

Good: Great presentation skills keeping audience engaged and listening.
To be improved: Your plan seemed to add on to the original idea instead of explaining how it would be executed.

Group 5 "Big O Tires Orem"

Good: This idea benefited the client but more importantly you explained well how it would benefit your audience (Big O Tires).
To be improved: Including how to get the van and set it up distracted from your main idea (to allow clients to schedule an appointment through an app).  Simplicity and depth is better than breadth.

Group 4 "SmartEat"

I missed this presentation

Group 6 "Biodiesel Fuel"

Good: You demonstrated a lot of background knowledge about this problem.
To be improved: It would have been beneficial to focus in on one problem and solution and not to look at so much of the industry at once.

Group 7 "BYU Transfer Student Scholarship Project"

Good: Your personal experiences with the problem made you credible and brought seriousness and value to addressing this issue.
To be improved: It took me a minute to understand how long someone had to wait and why to get a scholarship. Including explanatory images would have helped.

Group 9 "Password Security"

Good: Using the "How strong is my password?" website was dynamic and got your point across quickly. Awesome!
To be improved: It would have helped to know exactly who your target audience was.

Audience Presentation Review

"The Student Express" -- Group 1
Good: I really enjoyed your very detailed project plan.
What can be improved: there was a lot of flipping through the slides just to show a picture; practice will help that to improve!

"Creating a Healthier Campus" -- Group 2
Good: Beautiful images fro what you want the future building to look like, great vision and ideas.
What can be improved: Great topic, very popular among students, but your data/reasoning is directed at a very specific audience (and I found myself asking who is your audience).

"Blue & White: Cougar Line" -- Group 3
Good: Great audience involvement. The slide with "5.86 dollars" is a great attention getter.
What can be improved: No plan for a high volume of students was included, or at least how to manage long lines.

"Big O Tires Orem" -- Group 5
Good: Really innovative and original idea, especially the development of an application.
What can be improved: What other tools and supplies do you nee din order to provide these services and more? Is a large van sufficient?

"SmartEat" -- Group 4
Good: The application accessibility is very convenient to use.
What can be improved: Your transitions were a little rough, you could have helped each other to move smoothly through the presentation.

"Biodiesel Fuel" -- Group 6
Good: Each presenter was very knowledgeable of the topic.
What can be improved: The problems and solutions section was a little too long and confusing (but it was brought together well by the project plan).

"BYU Transfer Student Scholarship Project" -- Group 7
Good: I really liked your purpose statement of bringing unity to the campus.
What can be improved: More statistical information would be useful to show the authenticity of this issue.

"Password Security" -- Group 9
Good: Very entertaining presentation, great job involving the audience.
What can be improved: The presentation lacked several important section headings.

The True Audience Presentation Review

In Order of Presentation:

Group 1:  Presentation on food available in LSB
Well: Good job rotating parts. Good energy, well explained
Improve: Pretty good slides, but some of the information presented on them had confusing bullet points.

Group 2: better gym facilities
Well: Great real life example (getting gym and smith field house fixed). Fantastic job applying their proposal to things that mattered to them. Good rotation of parts
Improve: Slightly unorganized in presentation. Cost page had a lot of confusing information. It wasn't aligned, and was a bit difficult to read.

Group 3: Shuttles across campus.
Well: The "What's the Plan?" slide was very well organized. Presented in a clear way, good involvement of audience. Awesome color scheme with slides.
Improve: On campus could have bolded shuttle run times, or organized information a bit more clearly

Group 5:  Big o tires coming to our parking lot
Well: Very good slides! Addressed questions and concerns. Good audience participation. Exciting presentation!

Improve: Talked a bit fast at times when giving some information. But very well done.

Group 4: Food choices app, give menus
Well: Great displays on their slides
Improve: Nice presentation, but maybe could have practiced presenting a little more.

Group 7: Fixing hiking trails
Well: Great looking powerpoint. Simple, good pictures. Confident in presentation.
Improve: Confusing cost and benefit slide, could be organized a bit more clearly.

Group 8: Transfer scholarship policy
Well: Great qualification slide! Confident presentation, very good topic!
Improve: The registration dates maybe could have been explained more clearly, I wasn't able to read what was on the slide and follow what was being said exactly.

Group 9: Password Security (net id)
Well: Fantastic! Good rotation, good slides, confident presentation.
Improve: Could have mentioned if there are many hacker problems at BYU right now. A bit more defining of the current situation.

Audience Presentation Review

Group 1:
  • Great job explaining current situation and very specific project plan, good pictures
  • Need to improve slide flow, don’t flip back and forth so frequently
Group 2:
  • Nice pictures to explain the depth of the current situation (images were very helpful to portray the problems associated with current situation)
  • Interesting study to back up data, well explained but still used some more scientific words that general population might not understand
Group 3:
  • Cool idea to calculate the time between certain spots on campus
  • Maybe explain it a little better or emphasize the urgency or need a little more
Group 5:
  • Lots of detail and research
  • Could include more pictures to explain need
Group 6:
  • Good job explaining the need and its application to us
  • Sophisticated word choice, maybe make it less technical?
Group 7:
  • Liked the personal aspect of quotes from actual residents, really helped explained the current situation
  • The pictures were really good at showing the need and impact of the proposal
  • Explain more of who would be funding the project and if it would actually impact already proposed budgets
Group 8:
  • Great job establishing current situation
  • Very personal application
  • Liked that you put qualifications at the beginning
  • Maybe explain how it would or would not impact current students
Group 9:
  • Very interesting and relevant proposal
  • Very real application and I liked how you actually demonstrated password strength
  • Could have included information on if there have already been password security problems with net ids

Presentation Review

Group 1:
-The format of the presentation flowed very well, sections were clearly defined.
-There were a lot of statistics that seemed to be just numbers.
Group 2:
-You all connected with us (the audience) right off. Which made the presentation very enjoyable to listen to.
-It was hard to follow some of the points, especially because it was very in depth information.
Group 3:
-Caught my attention quickly because of introduction. Had great points to back up your claims.
-The presentation slides seemed kind of scattered.
Group 4:
-Had a very strong conclusion that summed up your purpose nicely.
-The cost/benefit slides were a little hard to get through
Group 6:
-A great idea and something I am interested in. The presentation was designed very nicely.
-I was confused on if you were for biodiesel or against it.
Group 7:
-Slides were easy to follow and presenters delivered information well.
-Could have connected with the audience a little more.
Group 8:
-I totally agree with all of this! I am a transfer student and went through the same thing! I’d like to see it changed.
-I think you could broaden your target group a little more beyond those that come back from missions at odd times and people who get married. There are a lot of people that transfer for other reason.
Group 9:
-A great idea that applies to all of us. A very legitimate presentation!

-Seems like there are a lot of things we can do on our own to better protect ourselves not just BYU changing their password setup.

Proposal Presentations Review

Group 1:
-Great at explaining intricate details, made it easy to follow
-You could try to have more creative headers than "introduction," "project plan," etc.

Group 2:
-Very convincing argument with thorough arguments.
-Transitions could be smoothed out with figuring out technical aspects of the presentation

Group 3:
-Great engaging introduction.
-There was a lot of information on the slides. Too many bullet points for the audience to read (or not read).

Group 5:
-Simple visuals were nice
-There was a long time on one slide. Maybe you could break up information into more slides?

Group 4:
-Great attention grabbers!
-You could switch between presenters more often to make it more balanced

Group 7:
-Great visuals and interaction with the visuals
-Could have more energy while presenting to help keep people's attention through all the information

Group 8:
-Fantastic personal stories made the argument very convincing
-Long sentences are too much on a slide.

Group 9:
-Fun demo in going to the actual website. It grabbed my attention AND convinced me!
-Could have dressed more professionally? (It was great. Hard to find places for improvement.)

Presentations

Group one:

-Did a great job with providing information and everything that the proposed idea would entail.

-Could have had a little more emotion in presentation. This could have helped really sell idea with enthusiasm.

Group two:

-Gave a great argument on the benefits for students and health benefits that would result from students using a new health facility.

-It would have been beneficial for them to go into more details on the project plan and different steps for the demolition of current building and construction of new one.

Group three: MY GROUP!

Group five:

-Did a fantastic job presenting in a professional manner and relaying idea to audience.

-Some small clarifications could have been made in the project plan and how things would be made/structured.

Group four:
-It was really cool to see how the app’s interface would be, did a good job explaining its function.

-Could have been presented will some more enthusiasm.

Group six:

-Could have explained the chemistry behind the use of biodiesel in simpler terms for everyone to understand. Also, maybe going into a little more detail about what the funds will go into exactly, ie what does “research” entail?

-Presenters did good job showing confidence in proposal, especially when asking for so much $$$.

Group seven:
-The cost and benefit section was explained very well. Presenters were call and confident.

-Presenters looked at slides a lot, probably could have made more “eye contact” with the audience.

Group eight:
-Group was dressed very formal! Good energy during presentation, especially for doing it at 8:30.  Good credibility for proposal (personal experience). Addressed the current situation very well also.
- What kind of help do you need from the investors? Do you need investors to help pay for scholarships or are you just asking for a change in policy?

Group nine:
-How credible is the How Safe is my Password Site? Great visual if site is credible.
-Maybe could have organized presentation a little more from beginning by giving a brief outline.

Group #1
Pro: Simplicity of the slides made it easy to follow and scan.
Con: Organization-flipping back and forth through the slides was distracting.

Group #2
Pro: Your whole presentation added to your credibility and qualifications through research, etc.

Group #3
Pro: Did a great job at not reading the slides and maintaining eye contact! Showed that you were prepared.
Con: You were well prepared to present and could have included less wording and such on the slides.

Group #4
Pro: Good transitions throughout the proposal. You set each other up splendidly!
Con: Lots of different colors on the slides was distracting to me.

Group #5
Pro: Slides were simple and evoked emotion to help stimulate interest in your proposal.
Con: You could have talked more in detail about the van and how it would have worked.

Group #6
Pro: Lots of pictures made the slides simple and easy to understand.
Con: Practice could have improved transitions and made the information simpler and easier to understand.

Group #8
Pro: I loved the personal experiences you shared to add credibility and excitement to your idea. It also helped the audience connect.
Con: Less bullet points and more simplicity could have helped.

Con: I would have liked to learn about if there have ever been any problems with the security before.

Audience Presentation Review

I really enjoyed all of the presentations. I felt they were very applicable to my life. My suggestions and comments are as follows:

Group 1 did well on using statistics and giving the audience an outline which made it easier to follow their presentation. One suggestion would be put the picture of where the food court would go on more slides. They kept going back to it when talking about other slides.

Group 2 did a great job using an outline but more importantly they had a lot of passion for their topic. It got me excited for their idea. One thing I noticed is that the presentation seemed a little unorganized. One more run through beforehand would have fixed that.

Group 3 used a lot of awesome visuals and explained their ideas very simply. My only suggestion would be to double check that everyone knows their role because it seemed a little unorganized due to miscommunication about whose turn it was for each slide.

Group 4 had very simple slides that made it easy to follow the presentation. I would only suggest making the numbers applicable to me. I understand that there are a lot of obese people and saving them is important but how does it help me personally. It is a selfish perspective but necessary for me to invest money.

Group 5 was full of excitement and had simple slides to help me follow along with their train of thought. I really enjoyed the presentation but felt that a few images were out of place and distracted me more than helped.

Group 6 did a great job of involving the crowd and answering questions in a sophisticated manner. I felt like the presentation was very thorough which gave them more credibility. My only concern was that they seemed to focus on the negative aspects of bio-diesel fuel for the majority of the presentation. At least that is how it felt. I would just condense the weaknesses a little bit and focus more on how you specifically will fix the problem.

Group 7 showed a lot of passion and investment in their idea. I would sense that it was something that was very important to them which made me think it was more important than I originally did. I would have liked to have learned about specific trails that they had been to that are not popular but are spectacular. Then I would want the forest service to be able to use chainsaws to clear the trail so I could see that spectacular trail as well.

Group 9 brought in a lot of expertise in their field. They were both very knowledgeable about passwords and their security. This showed that they were qualified for the job which persuaded me to take what they were saying more seriously even though I do not necessarily agree with such long passwords. I also liked the use of the website, it helped put things in perspective for me. I just wish that there was more information and data outside of the website used to back up their idea. It was great though.

Presentations

Group 1
Positive: They were clear about their purpose from the beginning, and everything was very well organized and well prepared.
Negative: I was a little confused by the bar graph that showed the results of the On-Campus Meal Survey.

Group 2
Positive: Each of the presenters contributed equally to the discussion.
Negative: Although the cost was addressed, the plan for paying for the new building wasn't addressed.

Group 3
Positive: The plan was well thought out and presented very thoroughly, with important details.
Negative: I thought there was a little too much information on the slides.

Group 4
Positive: The slides were put together very well, and were very clear.
Negative: I wondered how this app was different from other apps that already exist.

Group 5
Positive: The slides were simple, and were used to enhance the presentation rather than as the focus of the presentation.
Negative: I would have liked to know more about what kind of tools the van would have that would enable it to do so many services.

Group 6
Positive: They didn’t hide challenges, but addressed issues people might have with biodiesel, and then talked about potential solutions.
Negative: The picture under the US Department of Energy slide had a little too much information for one slide.

Group 7
Positive: The pictures in the slide were very simple and applicable.
Negative: I would have like to know why people are opposed to using chainsaws to clear trails. Are there any downsides?

Group 8
Positive: The plan was simple and presented very clearly. The chart with the application deadlines was easy to understand.
Negative: I would suggest sharing the statistics before the conclusion. Share them as a part of the cost/benefit section.

Presentation Review

Group 1
Did really well!
Thought it was really convincing. I liked how you picked a location and had a solid plan.
Can’t think of what to improve. Was really good!

Group 3
Liked the map. Well planned out!
More visuals could have helped.

Group 5
Great idea and well presented! I liked that you used an app to carry out the idea
Could have gone over costs a bit more.

Group 4
Great presentation! I like how you made the app relevant to the audience—students and mentioned that food is one of the top concerns of students.
Could have gone over how it differs from/is better than YELP and other similar apps more.

Group 6
I liked the last slide where it discussed saving money for the investors and saving the environment.
Could have switched between presenters more frequently.

Group 7
I liked that you had exact costs picked out for each thing. Good idea!
Could have been a little bit more enthusiastic during the presentation.

Group 8
Personal stories were convincing. Presented the issue in a convincing way.
Could have addressed the BYU tuition and the differences in scholarships here vs. other universities a little bit more.

Group 9
I liked that you pulled up the website to show how long it would take for a computer to hack a password of varying lengths. Very well organized.

I can’t really think of ways you guys could improve—it was really good! More eye contact with audience?
